A Note From Martha

It’s a time of evaluation. Did you accomplish the goals you set for yourself? Are you satisfied with yourself and your horse? But as much as the twilight of a competition season is an end, it is also a new beginning. The end of one season is the “get-ready” time for the next. We barrel racers need to learn from our successes and our mistakes. So, as the days start to get a little more chilly and a lot shorter, keep that positive mental attitude-that winner’s outlook. And before your know it…it’s all starting over again!

Dear Martha,
Each month I look forward to the Winning Ways. You all are doing a great job. I’m sending you a poem I wrote. I took a writer’s liberty and used the word hero instead of heroine. Have you ever tried to rhyme heroine. Keep up the positive newsletter because after reading it I get so charged up I ride more, work more and get more accomplished.

 Thanks,
Sheila Chastain

Tribute to a Hero
Everyone needs a hero
Someone to look up too
Not only in what they say
But in how they live and what they do.
Everybody needs a hero
and I’ve had one for years
One who is a winner,
One who’s heard the cheers.
But what makes this hero special and means so much to me, My hero shows you how to be the best that YOU can be!
Surely you’ve seen my hero?
She’s been in many towns
She always had a kind word to get you up when your down.
And if someone else’s hero,
I ever do become I’ll tell them Martha Josey
Showed me how it was done.
