1. What is the Sure Grip Saddle Seat?
The Sure Grip Saddle Seat is a cover designed to fit in the seat of the rider's saddle and attaches with straps that go behind the cantle and under the fenders. The rider will then attach Velcro straps around her upper thigh which will "stick" to the seat. It's similar to a bull rider or cutter wearing chaps, the Sure Grip Saddle Seat works because it gives you traction.
2. Who would benefit from the Sure Grip Saddle Seat?
There are many reasons a rider might chose to use a Sure Grip. In both 1982 and 2004, Martha sustained serious injuries which left her without full strength in her legs. Martha continued to be a top competitor but when riding horses and competing at the level she was, she needed a little extra grip. As Martha quoted in an interview with Bridget Cook, "It gave me security. I think anybody who needs a little extra security should consider it. It's not for the person who can't ride but it's for the person who wants to do better by being more secure and you can use it as a stepping stone to get back in the saddle." Martha proved the effectiveness of the Sure Grip when she and Orange Smash barreled into the National Finals Rodeo in 1998.
At our clinics at the Josey Ranch, we see many kids on top-notch horses, but because they are so small and light, they have a hard time sitting down deep through the fast turns. The Sure Grip Seat is great for those kids who just don't weigh enough to keep them down in their saddle.

3. Is it safe to use a Sure Grip Saddle Seat?
Definitely! A common misconception is that riders are strapped down with the Sure Grip. The Velcro straps will keep riders from getting too far up over their horse during the turns, and keep you from getting behind your horse when he powers out from the barrel. The Velcro isn't so strong that it will keep you from falling all together.

4. Will the Sure Grip Saddle Seat interfere with my riding?
The Sure Grip will not interfere with normal riding. Riders should even be able to post the trot using their legs like they normally would.
