FAQs about using Oster Products

Universal Motor FAQ's
Q: How do I get my blade back on once I have taken it off?
On very top of clipper look at the rectangle shape in center of the steel. Take a screwdriver and pry that upward until it is in standing position. It will be at an angle. Once that is standing, put your blade on, turn on the clipper and snap the blade in place. To remove correctly, turn off the clipper, turn the black latch toward you and push in. Take the fingertips of your other hand and put underneath the teeth of the blade. Lift blade up and back toward you. This leaves the hinge in the standing position each time.
Q: Why do my clippers stop running when I turn them a certain way?
Brushes may not be in correctly or the unit could have a stiff cord and not be making a good connection.
Q: Why has my gear worn out on my clipper?
You are not greasing the gear enough.
Q: Why can't I get the battery to recharge on my Power ProTM Clipper?
The life the battery is approximately 400 hours. It probably passed the life of the battery.
Q: How often should I grease and oil my clipper?
This depends a lot on the model. Turbo A5® Clippers need grease and oil every 2 or 3 weeks. Golden A5® Clippers only need it about every 2 months. If use is light it could be a little longer. If it is heavy it should be more often.
Q: What size blade do I use for certain animals?
Refer to Oster® Animal Blade Usage Chart.
Q: Why does my clipper run slow sometimes?
More than likely the brushes need changing. They last for about 300 hours. If it isn't that it should be sent in for service.
Q: Are the Turbo A5® Clippers better than the Golden A5® Clippers?
All our Universal units are good units. However, the Turbo runs faster than the Golden A5® Clippers.
Pivot Motors FAQ's
Q: Why does my blade sound like it is whistling on my trimmer?
You have a defective tension spring.
Q: Why do blades stall on my clipper?
Either the magnet has broken loose on the armature or the bobbin is not staked properly.
Q: My combs will not work on my clipper when I have the lever in the long position. Why?
The combs are not designed to work with the lever in the long position. When using combs they designate the length the hair is left and not the comb.
Q: Why will my blades not cut after I clean them and put them back on the unit?
Usually the Blade Guide has fallen off the tension spring.
ClipMaster® and ShearMaster® FAQ's

Yes, all motors are the same, so all heads fit all motors.

No, there is no substitute.

Check tension on head, turn clockwise until snug, then turn counterclockwise 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Oil blades while clipping. Check drive yoke blade springs to see if they are broken.
Q: Why does cutter fly out of my ShearMaster®?
The tension spring is defective.
Q: Can a ClipMaster® be used to clip sheet or goats?
No. A ClipMaster® is used for cows and horses and other large animals. A ShearMaster® should be used for sheep and goats.
Q: When I used my unit for the second time it would not turn on. Why?
Possible switch failure, return to store or send back to factory for repair.
Q: Can a ClipMaster® be used on dogs?
Lots of people prefer to use a ClipMaster for dogs, especially Chows, Newfoundlands, Sheepdogs, etc. These dogs have a very thick coat of hair. We would not recommend using on smaller dogs because the units are large and noisy.

Most customers usually put the blade on backwards.
Q: Where can I buy parts and what find out part numbers?
We do not sell parts directly from factory, refer to nearest Authorized Service Center
Blades FAQ's
Q: Why should I use Blade Wash®?
Blade Wash® is used to clean all the grit and hair from your blades once you are through cutting. This is important for the life of your blade.
Q: How many cuts should I get per blade?
This depends on how you use your blade or what type of hair you are cutting and how well you take care to clean your blade. Eventually, all blades will get dull.
Q: Why does my new blade not cut?
It is possible the tension may not be tight enough on the blade. Return to the store or the factory.
Q: How do I know if my blade is getting dull?
The blade will start to pull the hair instead of cutting it. Hair will also jam up in the blade.
Q: What is the difference in CryotechTM and regular Oster® blades?
All the blades made now are CryotechTM. This just means they have been frozen and heated to certain temperatures for better hardness on the blade, which means less sharpening.
Q: What are the Elite CryotechTM blades? Do they stay sharp longer?
The Elite CryotechTM blades are coated with titanium which gives them a longer lasting edge, so they should stay sharp longer.
Q: My blade rattles on my unit. What is wrong?
It could be the socket. Turn your blade over so you are looking at the back of the blade. In the center of the blade you will see your socket and it looks like little wings. Take your pliers and squeeze in on these just a little bit. This should stop the rattling.
Q: Why does my blade not fit flush against my clipper?
It is not engaged with the lever well. Sometimes you have to put a little extra pressure on the blade to push it on into place.
Q: Where can I buy new blades?
We do not sell directly from factory. Refer to an Authorized Dealer.
